→ (누구)의 기호에 맞는 (무엇) 

▲ Evidently, the judge had found someone to his liking

→ 확실하게, 그 판사는 자신의 기호에 맞는(좋아할만한) 누군가를 발견했다.

■ When the occasion calls for it,

→ 필요한 때(경우)가 오면

▲ He and Mrs. Fawcett had been living apart for several years, though they were still seen together around Roanoke when the occasion called for it.

→ 포셋 판사와 포셋 부인은 수년동안 별거중이었지만 (둘이 함께 있어야 하는 그런) 필요한 때가 오면, 로아노크 마을에서 둘이 함께 있는 모습이 여전히 목격되었다.

■ It is common knowledge that ~. 

→ ~은 모두가 아는 상식이다.

▲ It was common knowledge they had separated. 

→ 그들이 갈라섰다는 것은 모두가 아는 상식이었다. 

■ Have no stomach for (something) ~. 

→ ~을 할 생각은 없다.

▲ They simply did not have the stomach for a divorce. 

→ 그들은 단지 이혼할 생각이 없었을 뿐이다.

   ※ stomach의 사전적 의미는 "위" 이지만appetite과 같은  "욕망","욕구"를 의미

■ Living arrangement

→ 거주형태

▲ Their living arrangements created some gossip.

→ (별거를 하는 )그들의 거주형태는 뜬 소문들을 만들어내었다.

■ in due course,

→ 적절한 시기에

▲ When he did not show up for a trial on Monday morning, his law clerks panicked and called the FBI. In due course the agents found the crime scene.

→ 그(판사)가 월요일 아침에 재판정에 나타나지 않았을때, 그의 서기는 전정긍긍하였고 FBI에 신고하였다. 적절한 때에 (수사)요원들은 범죄현장을 발견하였다.
